Teen Patti is a popular Indian card game that is typically played by a group of 3 to 6 people using a standard 52-card deck without jokers. Each player receives three cards face down after the boot amount is decided and collected from each player. The boot amount, which is the minimum stake amount put in the pot, is kept in the centre of the table. As the game progresses, the pot money increases and is awarded to the winner of that hand. The winner is the player who remains in the game until the end of the hand and has the best or highest-ranking hand, which is determined by the cards ranking as shown below.
Ranking of the cards from high to low is:
- Trail or Set (three of same rank),
- Pure sequence,
- Sequence (or run),
- Color,
- Pair (two cards of same rank), and
- High Card.
The following image illustrates the ranking of cards from highest to lowest for each rank. It is important to remember that in a sequence, A-K-Q is considered the highest ranked sequence, followed by A-2-3 as the second highest ranked sequence.

Playing Teen Patti
After contributing the boot money, each player is dealt three cards face down. The player next to the dealer then has the option to either place a blind bet without seeing their cards or to see their cards before making a move. If the player chooses to see their cards, they can play chaal or have other options depending on the state of the game. If a player places a blind bet, they are referred to as the blind player. If a player places their bet after seeing their cards, they are referred to as the seen player.
Blind Player
If you choose to be a blind player in Teen Patti , you won’t be allowed to see your cards. Instead, you’ll have several options to choose from, including Pack, Blind, and Show if available. If you decide to play Blind, you’ll need to put the bet amount in the pot. The Blind bet amount is equivalent to the current stake amount or twice the current stake amount.
The stake amount is determined by the previous player’s bet. For instance, the bet placed by a blind player becomes the stake amount for the next player, while half of the bet placed by a seen player becomes the stake amount for the next player. In case of another blind player, the bet amount can be equal to the stake amount or twice the stake amount.
A blind player can ask for a Show only when there is one opponent left in the game. This is referred to as a blind show. After asking for a show, the cards of both players become visible, and the winner takes the pot.
Seen Player
Once a player has seen their cards, they can choose to either play chaal, pack or have other available options such as show and side show. Playing chaal is necessary to remain in the game, unless the player chooses another available option.
If a player decides to play chaal, they must place a bet into the pot. The bet amount for a seen player is either twice or four times the current stake amount. The stake amount for the next player depends on the previous player’s move. If the previous player was a blind player, the stake amount for the next player is the amount bet by the previous player. If the previous player was a seen player, the stake amount for the next player is half the amount bet by the previous player.
Alternatively, a seen player can ask for a side show, which allows them to compare their cards with the previous player’s cards. To request a side show, the player must put an amount equal to twice the current stake in the pot. The previous player then has the option to accept or deny the side show request.
If the side show request is accepted and the previous player has better cards, the requesting player must pack. If the requesting player has better cards, the previous player must pack. If the side show request is denied, both players remain in the game and the turn passes to the next player.
Limited Stake and Unlimited Stake Tables
When you start playing Teen Patti , you typically begin at a limited stake table. The first limited stake table has a boot amount of 2, allowing for a maximum of 4 blinds and a maximum Chaal of 256. Additionally, there is a Pot limit of 2048, which, when reached, requires all players still in the game to show their cards, with the winner receiving the Pot.
As players accumulate chips and play more hands, they can move up to higher level tables with higher stakes. The next level limited table has a boot amount of 4, allowing for a maximum of 4 blinds and a maximum Chaal of 512. The Pot limit is also higher, at 4096.
